Need

This Ferrara-based company, whose business has flourished over the last 15 years, operates in the manufacture of innovative FM transmitters. It came to WIL in need of a specialist consultancy for the design of a 3.8 kW AC‐DC converter for use in a modular solid state RF amplifier, with the fundamental requirement being extremely high electrical efficiency performances (over 95%).

Solution

The converter built was positioned in a particularly competitive segment as far as technology is concerned, with regards to both the control part - interfacing with the user apparatus and interfacing with the electricity grid - and electrical efficiency. The goal (which was achieved with great satisfaction) was to obtain a product that would be competitive against similar models offered by the most acclaimed manufacturers worldwide and would  - once integrated into high power transmitters (up to 60 kW) for FM broadcasting - impact positively on the overall efficiency of equipment and systems.
