Reducing products' environmental footprint

Industry: Chemistry & Materials
Service: Eco-innovation

Definition of a process innovation strategy guided by an environmental impact analysis.

Need

This company - which has been operating in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene pipes for over 40 years and reports a turnover of over €50 million - specialises in the manufacture of pipes for civil and industrial facilities for waste water and waste distribution and recovery. It commissioned Warrant Innovation Lab to devise a strategy to reduce the environmental impact of its products, supported by an objective assessment specifying the margins for improvement.

Solution

Our involvement was structured over a series of progressively more detailed analyses. From a stage-by-stage macro-analysis of the production process, we gradually worked towards measuring the environmental impact of specific processing steps. Using the ideality concept, characteristic of the TRIZ systematic innovation method, the margins for potential improvement were identified, after which we were able to prioritise the innovation/development actions needed in order to significantly reduce the environmental impact of the end product.

Benefits

  • Environmental impact of the end product reduced by up to 30%.
  • Market leadership and industry benchmark product .
  • Optimisation of production sustainability standards.
  • Enhanced brand reputation.
