Optimal warehouse management

Industry: Logistics and distribution
Service: Business process management

Warehouse process analysis to increase internal efficiency and delivery frequency.

Need

This company, based in the Emilia region, operates in the distribution of Plumbing and Heating supplies, with a turnover of over €30 million. It set out the need to review its internal warehouse management processes, from order entry to product delivery, so as to identify any areas for optimisation and recoup internal efficiency while also improving customer service in terms of delivery frequency.

Solution

Our involvement took the form of a detailed analysis of all the warehouse activities, starting from the administration activities for registering incoming orders and shipping goods, through to the loading/unloading operations performed by warehouse staff. An optimal layout of the areas inside the warehouse was defined and a technology roadmap  was drawn up to maximise operations management efficiency and, consequently, free up resources in order to increase the level of service offered (above all in terms of delivery frequency).

Benefits

  • Savings due to increased internal efficiency of operations management (quantified as approximately two FTEs).
  • Higher level of customer service.
  • Optimal industry benchmark.
