New technologies for sugar extraction
Analysis, study, and testing of the use of a graphene-based material for the extraction of sugars from fruit pulp and prototype plant design.
Need
This company based in Vicenza, which has been operating in the food industry for over 20 years, produces and markets food products from exclusively organic farming sources. With a turnover of over €100 million, it is one of the leading producers in the Veneto area. As part of its research and development activities, the company commissioned a specialised research project from Warrant Innovation Lab concerning the use of ultra-filtering materials featuring a grapheme matrix for the extraction of sugars from fruit pulp, to avoid using chemicals in their processes.
Solution
The research examined various graphene-based materials suitable for the fruit pulp filtration process and involved preliminary tests of applicability to an industrial process. Since the research was successful, the work progressed with the design of a prototype plant.
Benefits
- Elimination of all chemical substances from the extraction process.
- Substantial process innovation.
- Inclusion of pioneering materials in established processes.
