IP protection strategy
Definition of a strategy to protect intellectual property resulting from the development of a new self-driving product.
Need
During the process to develop a new product, the company - which operates nationwide - realised it needed to maximise opportunities for the protection of intellectual property originating from the features of the new self-driving product under development.
Solution
Warrant Innovation Lab's involvement consisted of a functional analysis of the solution in order to define the scope of protection and the best strategy for the protection of intellectual property relating to the asset (e.g. trademarks, patents, drawings, models, and know-how) Once we had an outline of the starting scope, the scope of function was broadened to generalise, as much as possible, the features protected and therefore expand coverage. Finally, the patent applications for the asset in question were submitted.
Benefits
- Patent protection against competitors.
- Increased value of intellectual property and opportunities to maximise product marketing.
- Increased patent portfolio (+2 patents).
- Access to tax benefits originating from the enhanced research and development activities.
