Need

The leading name in the design and production of granulators and shredders for  recycling non-ferrous materials (e.g. plastic, paper, copper cables...) is an SME from the Emilia area with over 50 years of history to its name. It needed a means, within its production processes, of reducing machine downtime during routine maintenance, which was causing considerable losses of time due to lengthy breaks in line operation. Despite action taken by the manufacturer, including optimising anchors, geometric design, and operating techniques, the downtime remained unacceptable.

Solution

Warrant Innovation Lab intervened with a new human-computer interaction mode which allows maintenance technicians to work from outside the machine, cutting down machine downtime considerably. The project led to the design of the new solution and patent protection for the method devised. The solution, which has opened up new horizons for the machine's digital development, is scalable for use on all sizes of equipment produced by the company.
