Need
This historic Italian company, with roots stretching back over 100 years, has always been committed to researching and developing innovative solutions in the food packaging field and was among the first in the industry to replace traditional glass containers with plastic ones. Today, its primary need is to replace the current multi-layer plastic containers with new solutions with a lower environmental impact.
Solution
The project stems from a precise need to identify new, more sustainable solutions than those currently available. Taking advantage of open innovation models, market research was carried out to identify the state of the art and any development guidelines. Several potential partners were found from universities, research centres, businesses, and start-ups. Finally, once a number of potential solutions had been identified, specific tests were carried out in specialist laboratories to verify compliance with the requirements set out.
