Need
The benchmark company in Lombardy operates in the sublimation printing sector with a turnover of € 10 million. Specialized in the production of printed polyester films for the construction and fashion sectors, it expressed the need to identify a method of recovery and reuse of waste materials deriving from the transfer process, in order to be able to reinsert them in the same production cycle or in other markets.
Solution
The intervention was developed through the definition of a series of research and development activities aimed at testing the feasibility on a laboratory scale of the regeneration process of printed polyester films. The different phases of the process are: the development of a cleaning / washing protocol for printed films, with the use of green solvents with low environmental impact; a grinding step of the suitably treated films; finally, the characterization of the mechanical and optical properties of the regenerated films, plus a market scouting aimed at identifying the main outlet areas of the regenerated material and the most suitable technological partners to develop the regeneration process on an industrial scale.
