Smart cities: air quality monitoring
Environmental pollution detection is usually carried out by a few permanent measuring stations, which are often spread over very large areas. This approach makes it impossible to detect pollution peaks in circumscribed areas and their sources.
Supplementing conventional stations with a well distributed system of low-cost detection sensors (for widespread monitoring) means local peaks in pollutants can be detected quickly. The sensors can process air quality data and send it to a control station, where the data is stored and analysed. Any local peaks can be reported to the organisations concerned.
- Widespread monitoring and detection
- Low costs
- Easy integration with existing systems
Possible applications
- Government entities
- Local entities
- Air and environmental pollution monitoring bodies
- Large companies with multiple production facilities
