i-Tex: environmentally sustainable water-repellent coatings for fabrics

Industry: Fashion
Service: From Lab to Business

Need

Despite achieving considerable levels of performance in many cases, the water repellent coatings currently used on fabrics continue to contain components that are either environmental pollutants or health hazards, and sometimes limit the range of application.

Solution

Development of a low environmental impact water-repellent treatment which adds value to the end product through the properties lent to it, the components used, and the high knowledge content. The processing involves applying (using standard industrial methods) an organic/inorganic ceramic coating which is water repellent and fluoride-free and formaldehyde-free.

Benefits

  • High performance
  • Low environmental impact
  • Versatility (areas of application)
  • Durable and multifunctional coatings

Possible applications

  • Textile clothing
  • Technical textiles (transport, packaging, sports, automotive, ...)
  • Other materials (wood, metals, natural stone)
